Membership

Becoming a member of Schweitzer is a lot like serving a God who is the great “three in one”.  By joining our church you are affirming 1) discipleship in Jesus Christ, 2) the United Methodist denomination and 3) Schweitzer church.  If you are interested in membership, we offer a class named “Come Meet Schweitzer” where these three things are discussed.  Upon completing this class we bring folks into membership during Sunday worship services by means of baptism, re-affirmation of faith or transfer of membership with the traditional Methodist (Wesleyan) question: “Will you be loyal to The United Methodist Church, and uphold it by your prayers, your presence, your gifts, and your service?”

We ask everyone who is interested in membership at Schweitzer to live out our seven core values:

Jesus is Lord

Do I truly accept Jesus as Lord and that is He the basis and focus of my life?
Is everything I do grounded in Scripture?
Do I pray daily?

Outreach

Am I meeting and loving people wherever and however I find them?
Is outreach a priority in my life?
Am I an active witness for Jesus Christ?

Community

Do I make intentional efforts to reach out to others in my church and community?
Do I embracing persons of all races ages and economic classes?
Do I equally value every person and respect differing opinions?

Worship

Am I worshipping God at every opportunity?
Do I accept and respect all God’s people?
Do I joyfully welcome both silent and overt expressions of praise and thanksgiving?

Christian Development

Have I taken responsibility for my own spiritual growth?
Have I discovered, developed and deployed my spiritual gifts in service to others?
Have I developed a daily habit of prayer and reading of the scriptures?

Servant Leadership

Am I fully utilizing my gifts to further my church’s mission statement?
Does my lifestyle demonstrate integrity and servanthood?
Am I accepting the responsibility to be active in the ministry I feel called to?

Membership Covenant

Am I acting like a club member or an active disciple of Jesus Christ?
Am I willing to pay the cost to be a true follower of Jesus Christ?
Am I living out the membership commitment “by my prayers, presence, gifts and service”?
