Pandemic Response Help Needed
This weekend, Schweitzer will have a drill of global importance. When I came on staff three years ago, I learned about a new “Disaster Relief” ministry that was in its infancy stage. I remember thinking, “What are they going to do”? Well, maybe you remember Hurricanes Katrina and Rita? Maybe you remember the devastating tornadoes in 2006 and even this year that ripped parts of Missouri and Kansas to shreds? Schweitzer has been on the front lines of disaster, reconstruction and aid for the last three years. Now we are looking at the next step. This Sunday at 1:00 p.m., we will have our first “Pandemic Response” training opportunity. We need your help in planning for what some believe to be inevitable- a plague, bacteria or virus that would threaten human life on a global level. If you (family) are available this Sunday, July 1st, please join us after church. Scout Troop #7 will grill hamburgers and hot dogs ($3 donation) before the event. At 1:00 p.m., we will line up outside the main entrance by the sanctuary and receive our “health status cards.” The cards will let the team know of our illnesses and/or symptoms (make believe of course). The drill should take an hour and a half. There will also be free Andy’s gift certificates for all those who participate. We are working hard to make this event as fun as possible; however, today’s fun event is tomorrow’s saving grace to a world in great need. This Sunday, please make this a priority. We look forward to seeing you! --Pastor Jim
