Being Transformed
The words shared by Richard Blackmon in worship yesterday were
profound. In a world that is full of difficulties, evil, pain, wars, hunger, abuse
and desperately in need of the healing power of Jesus Christ- what do we do?
We give to the Kingdom of God through the local church. We have a choice.
We have a way to respond. We can make a difference. And as a result, we are
blessed in ways we never could imagine.
Richard said he had never met two types of people: people who “used to”
tithe and people who regretted giving to the Kingdom. It is because these
gifts change us. They convince us of the blessings of God and the certainty
that we are called to participate now in the life God has through Christ on
this earth.
How eager are you for the blessings of Christ to be in your life and the life
of others? What are you willing to do? Where are you willing to go?
I have been a member of Schweitzer for over twenty-three years. It has
been my church home and the place Ben and I have chosen to support with
our prayers our presence our gifts and our service. Schweitzer has changed
us, it has changed our family and it continues to call us to higher and higher
levels of service.
The other night, the weather in Springfi eld was getting dangerous. There were
tornado warnings going off around us and a cold front was coming through.
It was then I knew I had been changed once again. Instead of worrying about
myself (tornados scare me big time!) I began to think about the church. Are
we ready for the next disaster? Will we need to open the shelter tonight? Will
Ed Hewlett be calling soon? What will we need to do for others this evening?
And then I realized, I had been changed. The generosity of this church in
helping the community had transformed my life as well and I am blessed.
May God Bless you as you bless others.
