IT ALL STARTS NOW!

School is back in session, the extreme heat has subsided and church is starting to fi ll up again. All these are signs that fall is just around the corner. As far as Schweitzer is concerned it all starts now!
Schweitzer’s college ministries are already in full gear this week. The Green Room worship is at 8:00 p.m. this Sunday, August 26th. Check out opportunities for worship, bible studies and other events designed by and for college students in this  edition of the Story, by visiting our website at Schweitzerumc.org, or contact Matt Kerner.
The Youth Messy Olympics/BBQ is this Sunday, August 26th --the night all students 6th through 12th grade will want to come and invite their friends. Parents of youth are encouraged to attend a special parents meeting at 6pm to learn more about the exciting plans developing for our young people.
Children’s Sunday school promotion during the 9:40 hour is also this Sunday. Parents will also want to know about LIVE BIG (ages 4 through 3rd grade)—the children’s ministries we now have going during worship on Saturday nights and Sundays at 11:00am. We also look forward to another year of exciting ministry for children on Wednesday nights as children’s ministries and choirs kick off September 12th. For more information, contact Liz Craig or Kris Kaatz.
Choir practice for adults is now ongoing every Wednesday night. Whether you want to sing during 8:30 or 11:00 worship (or both), come join Kevin Hawkins at 6:30pm. Other adult musical groups start after Labor Day.
Schweitzer is developing an incredible assortment of spiritual growth opportunities for adults of all ages and stages in their journey. Alpha on Sunday nights (beginning Sept. 16th) is a great ten week experience for those who are considering becoming a Christian or are new to the faith.
Another exciting opportunity will be led by pastors for those who have heard the sermon the previous weekend and want to go deeper in their understanding of that particular topic. These Wednesday 6:30pm sessions begin September 12th. There’s also a bunch of small group opportunities beginning later in September, some of which will be held in homes geographically scattered around greater Springfield. Be watching for further details or contact Jim Mason for a group coming near you!
Wednesday night dinners begin Wednesday, September 12. Fellowship and learning opportunities for all ages continues on Sunday mornings. Family Matters, the new class for parents of young children at 11:00, is attracting a dynamic group of young adults. We also look forward to the Beth Moore Daniel Study during the 9:40 hour led by Matt and Jo Ellen Aviles beginning September 16th. These new opportunities are in addition to other ongoing groups. To learn more about Sunday school, you may contact Deanna Gorden.

I invite you to check out these and other opportunities and take responsibility for your spiritual growth at Schweitzer. It all starts now! --Bob
