What's Up?
I want to let you in on what's up with me and a few other people you know! I am looking forward to some time away over the next few months. In fact, I am going to be "out" more than 'in". In addition to some vacation time, I am going on a continuing education trip, spend a week away in sermon planning and travel with the high school choir on their trip to NYC. Consequently, I am not going to be preaching again until the weekend of July 21 &
22. I will be in the office during the weeks of May 29, June 4 and June 25 but will be in worship at Schweitzer only a couple of weekends over the next couple of months.
As Cameron and Susan Labarr are leaving their respective positions as Director of Music Ministries and Contemporary Worship Leader at Schweitzer, we are looking for a full-time director to fill most of their current combined responsibilities. (We are pleased that Kevin Hawkins is continuing as our worship leader and choir director at 8:30 and 11:00 worship.) Cameron and Susan will continue their ministry with us until August 1 before leaving for Texas where Cameron will begin his graduate work at the University of North Texas. While we will miss Cameron and Susan, we are happy for them and know God is going to bless and use them in incredible ways. Please pray for the Labarrs and for Schweitzer as we continue the search for new leadership.
I hope you can attend the Missouri Conference Ordination Service June 2 to witness Lori Lampert's ordination as a Deacon in the United Methodist Church. You may also join in on the celebration during the reception the following Sunday in Lori's honor. (See related article in the Story). Ordination is a "once in a lifetime" experience culminating years of education, preparation, evaluation and good old hard work! What the annual conference has discovered is what we have known all along--Lori provides exceptional leadership in the myriad of ministries she performs. It's time to say "thanks" and celebrate all that Lori has accomplished!
The Annual Conference will be in session June 1-4 right here in Springfield. We anticipate Schweitzer having four appointed pastors come July 1-- Jim Mason will enter the pastoral role and join Jim Voigt, Lori and myself on the pastoral team. Jim is excelling in his work in helping people get "connected" at Schweitzer. Another important aspect of Jim's work is in discipleship through small groups. Jim is also trained and experienced in the various aspects of pastoral care. We are blessed with continuity of pastoral leadership plus one!
What a privilege it is for me to serve Christ in this dynamic congregation! I am so blessed and am deeply grateful for the privilege of serving as your pastor. Thank you for the support and encouragement you extend to me and your staff. --Bob
