The mission of Schweitzer United Methodist Church is to transform lives by making disciples of Jesus Christ. We believe God compels us through the gospel of Jesus Christ to always be Worshiping, Growing & Serving. Below are some traits that paint a picture of what occurs when the Holy Spirit empowers us to be fully devoted disciples of Jesus Christ.
Fully Devoted Disciples of Jesus will…
…Worship consistently:
Community Worship – We gather weekly with God’s people to sing in a spirit of praise and worship, pray together and hear the Word of God preached. We prayerfully prepare ourselves for and deeply desire to glorify God in our worship services.
Personal Worship – We consider worship a lifestyle and pursue a relationship with God daily through prayer, solitude, Bible reading, service and witnessing. Our lives reflect both obedience to God’s commands (e.g. values, priorities, relationships and behaviors), and God’s joy and peace in even difficult circumstances.
…Grow continually:
Community Growth – We make it a priority to be in consistent, authentic and loving relationship with other Christian believers through participation in Life Groups, Sunday groups and/or ongoing small groups. We value the church as the Body of Christ, remain united when opinions differ, and share the essential gospel message with others.
Personal Growth – We seek transformation through spiritual disciplines (e.g. prayer, confession, repentance, fasting, Bible reading, private worship), practice them as a means of surrendering to Jesus, and continually grow in allowing the fruit of the Spirit to be exhibited through us. (Galatians 5:22-23 The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, faithfulness and self-control).
…Serve sacrificially:
Gifts & Service – We use the spiritual gifts, natural talents and passions we have to serve others and build up the Body of Christ for the glorification of God. We see time and energy as precious gifts from God to be used to grow His Kingdom and submit our calendars to His guidance.
Financial Gifts – We view money and material possessions not as a measure of success or as a means of self-gratification but as a resource for which we are responsible to God. As we grow toward Christ-likeness, we allocate proportionally more of our income to further the kingdom of God.
