A new year is upon us, and Schweitzer United Methodist’s youth group has recently dubbed themselves, The Refuge. With the addition of a new youth team, The Refuge is starting out fresh. New messages, new mission trips, new summer camps, new games, new events, and new attitudes!
Youth in Springfield, youth in Missouri, youth in the United States, and youth all over the world are looking for answers. Answers to questions about their faith. Answers to questions they hear in school. Answers to questions they hear with their friends at social events. And even answers to questions they hear at their own dinner table at home. This is the reason The Refuge has been formed, and is successful.
The Refuge meets students where they are comfortable. We often connect with students at sporting events, choir concerts, after school, and here at Schweitzer.
There are currently three weekly events which the youth are involved in. Of course, we offer a Sunday School hour at 9:45am on Sunday mornings. Once you’ve grabbed a bite to eat and watched some football on Sunday afternoon, you should come back at 5:00pm on Sunday night for some “Hang Time.” This is an hour before actual youth activities start, and it is a time for fellowship, playing games, working on homework, eating, etc. At 6:00pm, High School Sunday Night Live (SNL) begins. Then, at 7:00pm, Middle School SNL begins. On Wednesday nights, we have our intensive bible study, which goes from 7 - 8pm. Students will find a high-energy time of celebration and learning, complete with music, food, door-prizes, and solid Bible teaching within both SNL and Wednesday night programming. Check out our website for more information on SNL and Wednesday night programs.
This Summer, The Refuge will be going on a Missions trip to Somerville, TN. There, students (14 years old and above) will be helping build wheel chair ramps, side houses, re-roof homes, paint, and drywall the insides of homes. We will also be heading to Camp Galilee this summer for a week of fun and fellowship. Check out our website for more information on the summer camps The Refuge is offering.
Other activities and opportunities can be expected as the year progresses, such as retreats, guys/girls nights, activity days, weekend missions trips, etc. Come out to Schweitzer and find out what we’re all about. You won’t regret it!
